“To Design a product platform for the human machine interfaces (HMIs) of Ultrasonic Testing machines, that has the ability to integrate with the existing test equipment.”

 

What is a Product Platform?

A product platform is based on an underlying architecture of common elements, modules, and / or subsystems, which are used throughout the whole product portfolio. Various product variants can be derived by attaching / removing / replacing  specific components on a common product platform.

 

Example: The Burger

Different types of burgers can be seen as a product platform. While the bread and the patty are common components of this product, the customer can vary the product with his selection of condiments and toppings.

 

What is a Human Machine Interface (HMI)?

An HMIs are the parts of the machine which the user interacts with. This contains all components, the user can give input to the machine with, like push buttons, a keyboard or a touch screen as well as all components, the user can receive outputs from, like displays, indicator lights or speakers. In industry, these interactive components are mostly packed together into a control console.
